Galactic Structure and Stellar Populations

The Milky Way Galaxy offers a unique opportunity for testing theories of galaxy formation and evolution. I discuss how large surveys, both photometric and spectroscopic, of Galactic stars are the keystones of investigations into such fundamental problems as the merging history – and future – of the Galaxy.

Stellar Flares and Coronal Structure

Coronal structure and coronal heating are intimately related in magnetically active stars. Coronal structure is commonly inferred from radio interferometry and from eclipse and rotational modulation studies. We discuss to what extent flares may be responsible for coronal structure and global observable properties in magnetically active stars.

On a stellar structure for a stellar manifold

It is well known that a compact two dimensional surface is homeomorphic to a polygon with the edges identified in pairs. This paper not only presents a new proof of this statement but also generalizes it for any connected n-dimensional stellar manifold with a finite number of vertices.
